ORLANDO, Fla. — In November, Orbit Industries, Inc. donated over 4,600 pieces of electrical products to support the 2019 IDEAL National Championship. Now in its fourth year, the IDEAL National Championship is a televised competition to determine the best electrician in North America. Among the products Orbit donated was its exclusive Universal Mounting Adapter with Back Support, which contestants used extensively to mount junction boxes on the competition stage.

The IDEAL National Championships Weekend was held at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida from November 7-9, 2019. Started by IDEAL® Electrical in 2016, the IDEAL Nationals has grown into the most recognized competition in the electrical industry. The 60-minute program will air on ESPN2 December 15th, 2019, at 8 p.m. EST, reaching over 95 million households (based on 2018 Nielsen ratings).

Orbit Industries’ entrance as an official sponsor of the IDEAL National Championships started in early 2019. Upon reading about the Qualifying Rounds (leading up to the final competition), Orbit President David Nikayin told his marketing team: “Let’s try reaching out to IDEAL, and see if we can donate some of our products.” Andrew Kuhns, Marketing Operations Manager for IDEAL® Electrical, was very open to the idea.“

Normally we’d have to buy these products wholesale from several manufacturers,” said Kuhns. “Orbit not only saved us thousands of dollars in material costs. They helped us value engineer twenty-six SKUs, and even suggested alternatives to more “traditional” solutions.”

For instance, Orbit suggested its versatile Universal Mounting Adapter with Back Support (UMA-LVBS) to replace a more traditional style of box mounting adapter. The UMA-LVBS accepts any 4”, 4-11/16” or 5” square box. Its integrated back support provides improved stability in 2-1/2” to 3-1/2” stud depths. During the event, competitors used the UMA-LVBS to mount junction boxes directly to stud wall frames. However, the UMA-LVBS can also be used between studs with the Simple Support Bracket (SSB) system – something no other adapter of its kind can do.

Orbit also eliminated IDEAL’s need for adjustable bar hangers and various conduit straps with its Stud Mounting Cable Support. The CS-CJ6 features a tool-free, snap-close design that holds up to four MC or AC cables; and up to six Non-Metallic (NM) cables. They arrived to the competition floor in boxes of 100, packed efficiently so contestants could easily “grab-and-go” as needed.“

The [IDEAL National] Championship is really about celebrating the next generation of tradespeople,” said Kuhns. “It made sense for us to introduce some of Orbits labor-saving products, even if they might seem ‘new’ to some of the competitors.”

“I’m thrilled we were able to donate our time and products to this wonderful event,” said Orbit President, David Nikayin. “There are very few competitions like this in our industry, and I look forward to working with IDEAL on the 2020 championships.”
