CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2023 SPARKS LEARNER OF THE YEAR

Nathan Pawsey with college tutor and judges from Sparks Learner of the Year final 2023

The results are in! The winner of the SPARKS Learner of the Year 2023 competition is Nathan Pawsey from Cambridge Regional College and IDEAL Electrical is delighted to congratulate him on taking the crown.

Nathan went head-to-head with six other regional finalists, completing a live 10-hour practical test across two days in April at Schneider Electric’s Innovation Hub in Coventry.

Commenting on his win, Nathan said: “I’m very proud of what I’ve managed to achieve. The prizes are fantastic! I’ve come away with a nice sum of money, Milwaukee drills, and some great IDEAL stuff. It’s brilliant! It’s been good seeing what other manufacturers are like, different from what we use at work and what our wholesaler supplies. It’s great to see all the different stuff you can work with.”

Congratulations also go to this year’s six other finalists: Matthew Cripps from Focus Training - Exeter Centre, Duncan Kinnaird from Cardiff and Vale College, Max Gardner from Darlington College, Connor Stickland from Bury College, Liam Davis from JTL Training and Sam Mackenzie from Farnborough College.

Runner-up Sam Mackenzie, who finished second overall in the competition, said: “It’s an amazing experience and opportunity! The prizes are amazing! It’s been interesting to see such a wide range of different products and brands that I didn’t even know existed! My biggest takeaway has been the confidence to go and do something outside of my comfort zone.”

IDEAL is proud to sponsor a contest that champions the best talent in the electrical industry and celebrates the skills of young professionals and the opportunities available to those starting their careers in the sector.
